Our Quebec scouting crew is literally in a frenzy of excitement this year over the upside of Joseph Veleno (F - 2000 - Lions Du LSL) and we would not lie to you - it's highly contagious to see so many people find themselves on the same page and tout a young 2000 DOB prospect as the best thing since sliced bread (exact words) to happen on the QMJHL draft frontline over the last five years! In our opinion, Valeno may one day surpass Jonathan Drouin's accomplishments on the NHL draft front! YES, he is THAT good! Click here to read the article...

Awesome!

Let us tell you one thing, when the curtain falls on the first 30 calls of the 2015 WHL bantam draft, we would not be in the least shocked to see Calen Addison, Brendan Benoit, Ben Coppinger, Caiden Daley and Jett Woo being off the selection board! In fact, we think most of the listed prospects could and would challenge for a first round pick, especially if they perform up to their full capabilities next season!

Rising Bluechipper!

We' know from bitter personal experience that even a good player can become an offensive afterthought on a loaded team like Belle Tire Bantam Major AAA. However, Cade Robinson defied this trend on all possible scores last season. In fact, we would say the 1999 DOB finesse forward actually eclipsed a lot of supremely hyped, optimistically projected and higher ranked T1EBHL blue-chippers with his special brand of stand-out offensive ice prominence!

College Bound!

The 2014 recruiting process was a memorable one for Matt Filipe (1997- Malden Catholic - 6'2" - 190) and the scouting parties surrounding him! Our Massachusetts hockey sources were chattering like magpies about the many great options Matt had, the awesome season he posted, and the absolutely dynamite prospect he would become in D1 ranks one day! The excitement was contagious and all-pervading, so we've caught up with Matt recently for a brief update on what's what with his career decisions and future …

Must Watch Newcomer

Now, here is a case of a prospect capable of looking into the eye of the storm and not flinching - Jenson (2000 - River Lakes High School Varsity - 5'9" - 150 pounds)! When Nikolai moved from a first year Pee Wee to play all but the first two games of HS varsity hockey in Minnesota many thought it was pure suicide for a 7th grader to take on bigger, tougher and vastly more experienced seniors. Jenson persevered in spite of everything and, boy, do we have mad respect for his commitment to the cause!

D1 Prospect

There are many prospects out there that possess good college potential, but will never actually realize it fully due to poor decision making. Needham (1999 - Neponset Valley River Rats - Arlington Catholic - 5'8" - 165 pounds), though, is absolutely on the right track! We are very excited about Craig's progress this year, and think his ability to crack the line up of the Lawrence Academy Spartans (great college preparatory school) for the 2014-2015 season could work wonders in the longer term career perspective!

BWC!

The years of scouting have taught us to never discount a prospect who has gone through the purely refining hockey development program like BWC, and we'd surely be keeping close tabs on Sam Atkins, Callum Volpe, Clint Colebourn, Mateo Coltellaro, and Spencer Hunter, who all appear to be much better stylistically after their 2013-2014 trial by fire!

Considering All Options

It was common knowledge before the draft Prestia (1998 - 98 Southern Tier Admirals - 6'1" - 203 pounds) would get picked within the first two rounds! However, the NCAA factor came into play on D-day knocking Nicholas down into the lower than expected 69th overall selection. That irrespective, everyone knows Nicholas will play at the next level and excel, however, the 1 million dollar question remained unanswered until today - will Prestia respond to the Belleville Bulls' beckoning call and join the OHL fray or are his allegiances firmly with the NCAA?

Stallions!

No matter how many times we peruse our Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League watch-list files for the 2014 springs-summer, a couple of prospects slip through the cracks and get omitted. But, don't worry, we have the waterfront covered fairly well for the Saskatoon Stallions with obvious high-priority slot-ins already taken by Jake Leschyshyn, Braden Krzak, Brock Ochitwa, Ashton Heidt, and Cole Beckman!

Must watch D1 prospect

There is always a demand in hockey for stay-at-home d-men that keep their game on the simple, better-safe-than-sorry side and, in our opinion, Masellis (1997 - Surrey Eagles - BCHL - 6'3" - 225 - D) is an epitome of this stylistically perfect defensive type! In case you haven't guessed it yet, we are pretty high on Domenic, because he made the challenging jump from major midget to the BCHL nicely, immediately got placed on the defensive frontline, and eventually logged 53 regular season games – something not many rookies are capable of doing without crumbling to bits mentally!

The Real Deal

We are making the last key changes to our 2014 WHL bantam draft list this week and one prospect who is under strong consideration for a possible rankings upgrade is Milligan (1999 - Notre Dame AAA Bantam Hounds - 5'10" - 155 pounds). We absolutely loved Eamon' smart game presence, consistency and confidence with puck this season, and think WHL teams will have a lot of acute appreciation as well for his classical 200 foot style game and quick-on-the-trigger offensive mind!

Cole Fonstad

We always have massive appreciation for kids that can take an offensive initiative into their own hands and propel the team to a top 4 end regular season league rating! And Fonstad (Centre - Estevan Bruins) rose to the challenge like the real McCoy this season. All that noted, we would also like to add, Cole gets an extra scouting bonus from us for achieving so much in so little time as one of the younger April 2000 birth dates in a league teeming with nails-hard 1999 D-men!

Vipers!

The Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League lies quite close to our operation headquarters, so we have zero difficulty making the short trek to the rinks to check out the early birds that are catching the worm in their hockey development and leaving competition behind. On the Sask Valley Vipers team we (and others) would like to highlight Jared Hamm, Joel Grzybowski, Chance Adrian, Austin Wieler, and Matthew Conlon for closer 2014 watch …

Favorites!

Every individual scout, coach, hockey parent, fan or player has his own perception of how a great next level prospect is supposed to play and carry himself on and off the ice, and we see first hand this year why exactly Matthew Kesslering, Jake Leschyshyn, Connor Tuffs, Kristopher Bzdel, and Dawson Holt find themselves in a lot of peoples good graces!

Fab 5!

Our scouting sources (and we, for that matter) are in a state of escalating excitement about the great things the next few weeks could hold in store for hockey notables Nolan Kneen, James Malm, Michael Rasmussen, Jordy Bellerive and Brendan Semchuk, so we've followed up on the red-hot lead recently and stole another sneak peek at this Fab 5!

All eyes!

Our omnipresent scouting eye in the sky has spotted plenty of intriguing, under-the-radar talent in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League (CSSHL) over the year, so we jumped at the chance to learn a little bit more about the promising local stand-outs Austin Leduc, Brodan Salmond, Carter Gosbee, Jake Bean and Tristan Crozier …

Stock!

Unfortunately, quite a few class of 2014-15 WHL draft prospects, who have been highly ranked in the preseason-fall time-span, have fallen off the map since that time. But there is also the other side of the coin, and when you look at blue-chippers Luka Burzan, Nolan Kneen, Jordy Bellerive, and Brendan Semchuk you'll know what we are talking about …

Projection!

The 2013-2014 season told us the entire tale on the upside galore Sean Dhooghe, Kyle Kawamura, Cole Coskey, Nolan Baldrica, and Tom Altounian possess, and we'd be more than comfortable stating on the record today that, projection-wise, we consider all five players high-potential junior hockey prospects, at the very least!

In focus!

We have been getting a lot of nice feedback on Conference of Independent Schools prospects this year! Indeed, the CISAA talent pool seems to be much deeper this year than was the case in 2013, which gives us every justification in the world to take yet another evaluative scouting stab at Andrew Pizzo, Bo Taylor, Francois Plamondon, Trent Fox, and Shane Woolsey …

Potential?

The Canadian Sport School Hockey League can become an amazingly effective springboard to NCAA game for prospects that play hard, improve their game, show the right attitude-commitment and produce for their team! That's why we are harboring big hopes for the hockey future of CSSHL' finest Kohen Olischefski, Micheal Regush, Sam Kozlowski, Taylor Ward, and Darren Rizzolo …

Dream!

If we were compiling the SBAAHL dream team for the season 2013-2014 not on statistical merits alone, but also on the aggregate amount of benefit a prospect brings to his team, we would give plenty of top-of-the-line consideration to the ever eye-catching Connor Tuffs, Jake Leschyshyn, Quinton Ong, Riley Sawchuk and Evan Thomas …

SBAAHL

If we had a nickel for every time a highly touted prospect failed to fulfill his hype we'd be rich. However, joking aside, we would give all the hype necessary and than some more to SBAAHL' finest Dawson Holt, Erik Gardiner, Ty Prefontaine, Dino Antoniadis, and Jared Hamm, who acquitted themselves this year above and beyond reprehension!

Top 3!

Hockey is a team sport and any coach worth his salt knows, there is more long term value in building a star-team, as opposed to a team made of stars. And if we had to pick the best of the best from the SBAAHL' Weyburn Energy Wings, Sask Valley Vipers and Battlefords Barons we'd give a lot of consideration to Matthew Kesslering, Joel Grzybowski, and Blake Oborowsky respectively.

Firepower!

A formidable offensive threat (talent) knows a fellow kindred spirit from a mile away, and the Regina Foxes' top point getter this past SBAAHL season has told us recently why he has nothing but respect and high praise for the league's 2014 sensations Dawson Holt, Jake Hobson, Carson Sass, Jake Leschyshyn and Cole Fonstad!

Jordan Schmuland

Goalies are, for the most part, notorious late developers, however, every now and again you encounter a kid that's light years ahead of his development curve and plays like a seasoned vet! Schmuland (Prairie Storm Bantam AA) is a fascinating tender because of this; a mere 2000 DOB, Jordan has stepped into the SBAAHL pressure-cooker this season and posted the kind of showing that would open all the doors for him down the road, if he just keeps up the great work on and off the ice moving forward!

Carson Miller

The day is near when Miller (Centre - 2000) will be challenging for the best available spots on AAA, prep, junior teams, and let us tell you one thing – when all is said and done in this recruiting play-off Carson could end up with all the marbles in his hands! Yes, we think he is that special a talent, and we would be more than willing to grant Carson all the scouting endorsements he needs after an unbelievable 2013-2014 SBAAHL season with the Yorkton Terriers!

Carson Welke

Now, here is a scrapper you don't want to cross on the ice – Welke (Left Wing, Yorkton Terriers – 1999)! We don't think you'll find any other elite level offensive prospect in entire SBAAHL who can hold Carson's jockstrap in the pure checking aspect! Welke has accumulated some mindboggling PIM's this season, and, yet, we wouldn't ever dream of holding this fury unleashed against Carson! In fact, we think Welke is a gem, because unlike other bull-in-a-china-shop hitters, he made his presence count each and every game in the pure statistical offensive category!

Tanner Manz

Now, here is a player we think could cause seven kinds of misery to competition next year - Manz (Centre - SBAAHL - Prairie Storm Bantam AA – 1999)! Tanner became a revelation to us last season, he mowed through the tough SBAAHL d-men, scored at will, showed incredible for his age intangibles and, what we think will make scouts pounce on Tanner one day, demonstrated a lot of sand paper and scrappiness to his game, which actually makes him a dually projectable NCAA and Major Junior stud athlete!

Drew Wilde

Heavy-duty offensive defensemen are all the rage in AAA ranks and beyond nowadays, and we would hasten to issue out a strong recruiting endorsement to Wilde (RD - SBAAHL - Prairie Storm Bantam AA – 1999) today! We've been tracking Drew's progress through the season and the end results (numbers) are impressive! Also, don't forget, there is the career-defining hockey intangibles factor (character, leadership, coach-ability, mental toughness), which Drew has shown excellent command of this year!

Tyson Manz

Wild horses would not drag us away from watching the ever incredible Manz (Right Wing - 1999 - Prairie Storm Bantam AA) next season! Alas, we did not get too many 2013-2014 opportunities to see Tyson in action first-hand, however, what we saw sufficed to mark him down as one of the most potential-rich Midget AAA, Prep and Junior prospects in SBAAHL, a league filled to capacity with all kinds of elite next level talent!

Zachary Ziegler

The pool of high-career-ceiling 1999 SBAAHL d-men is very deep, and while there is no end in sight right now we can confidently predict who will be swimming near the top of all recognition next year … One of our candidates is Prairie Storm Bantam AA' LD Ziegler! We have all the confidence in Zachary to one day develop into an elite level prospect, and, if push comes to shove next season and his coach needs an extra offensive wallop up front, we would bet on Zach to step up to the plate and deliver!

Mckenzie Welke

You want to see a picture-perfect 1999 offensive player in SMBAAL? Look no further than Yorkton Terriers centre man Welke! Boy, are we impressed with Mckenzie' play this season! He was equally lethal finishing and setting up around the net, banged bodies a lot and, what really made him stand out from the pack, did a lot of smaller things for his team, that actually had no immediate impact on statistical numbers, but helped his teammates out immensely!

Dawson Holt

Have you ever heard the hockey expression "full package"? Well, Holt (Centre - Saskatoon Generals – 1999) is a walking poster boy for this high praise, in our opinion. Dawson, who was, to set the record strait, SMBAAL' top scorer this season, can execute any mission a demanding coaching task-masker sets, and although he was not overly engaged on the defensive side of the puck this season we can easily envision Holt, if need be, man the D slot at the AAA next level with no problem at all …

Hunter McDonald

The Regina Foxes had hit some turbulent waves in the SBAAHL this past season with a lot of ups and down along the way. You always need a stabilizing force in these difficult times to keep the team on an even keel, fire teammates up, provide guidance and pretty much be the second coach on the ice! A tough order to fill for any 1999 DOB out there, however, Hunter McDonald was more than equal to the challenge and, to put it mildly, we are no end impressed with his game progress and player evolution!

Tylor Ludwar

Now don't take us wrong, we love offensive d-men (their style) to distraction, however, we've seen numerous examples of good D-men this year getting caught up in offensive ice, losing their position and becoming end-game liabilities for the team. That noted, if you want to see how an offensive d-man is supposed to play in a text book proper way, look no further than Ludwar, a 1999 DOB from the Regina Foxes squad. Tylor was hyper active on the rush this season, and while he produced numbers that would make a forward proud we thought his D zone coverage was just tops!

Carson Focht

We have questioned people around the SBAAHL block and everyone is pretty much on the same page this year - Focht (2000 – Centre – F) is the REAL DEAL! And while we agree with this completely, and applaud Carson for his offensive consistency in a tough year with the Regina Foxes, we would also like to point out a very important aspect to Carson's game other pundits might have missed – the kid has the character traits and work ethic that are simply off-the-charts!

Caleb Lumbard

The Regina Foxes took some heavy shellacking in the SBAAHL this season and while the statistics column might not give you the right idea of how well Lumbard (1999 – Goalie) played we can. We think Caleb did just fine, he showed us character, a warrior spirit and a readiness to guard the net till the last drop of his blood. Granted, the stats are not exactly sterling, however, lets face it, a goalie is often times only as good as the D in front …

Jacob Elik

Let us tell you one thing, as far as we are concerned all the stats go out the window when we deal with such high-commitment hockey athletes as Elik (1999 – Winger - Regina Foxes)! We thought Jacob was absolutely high-octane dynamic in SBAAHL this season and, mind it, his offensive stats would have been much better, but for the heavy D-zone engagement! We definitely give Jacob all the credit in the world for a job well done and will be watching him closely moving forward!

Cranbrook!

Scouts that are plying the games mainstream, primetime recruiting spots probably have not heard much about the Cranbrook Hornets of the South Central Alberta Bantam AA League! The California Amateur Hockey U14 AAA (CAHA) Bantam AAA's are bursting at the seams with outstanding next level (midget and beyond) caliber prospects and we'd like to give out a scouting-alert flourish the trumpets today to very special Joey Holman, Jonah Gold, Jordan Eisenmann, Slava Demin, and Jamie Cates …

T-birds!

We have crisscrossed the greater Vancouver area for the umpteenth time recently to pick up any new clues and leads on the prospects we've missed over the season, and some local hockey scene participants strongly suggested Matteo Paler-Chow, Jamie Ambrose, Martin Prcharl, Ryan Watt and Tyson Lin for an extra, post-season scouting inspection!

Coquitlam

The British Columbia, Canada area has produced quite a few good-to-great hockey prospects over the years and if you happen to be in the Coquitlam area this spring and summer we think it will be a time well spent and invested to take a sneak peek at pretty special Tomislav Zlomislic, Kolby Matthews, Sho Takai, Nathan Pelletier and Thomas Semple …

Vancouver!

The post-season hockey feedback continues to filter into our scouting memory banks this month of April 2014, and we'd be running the select bits on the site and giving you more exposure to Vancouver area kids like Bradley Hoy, Jayden Ghieuw, Bradley Seto, Isaac Cohee, and Cameron Luk, who are under the radar right now, but should and would emerge in the next year or two!

As a scout you learn as long as you live, and we'd surely learned to our own bitter cost over the years to never write off late-developing, under-the-radar prospects like Dylan Jones, Payton Fisher, Jarid Morhart, Jeremy Bisson, and Chantz Petruic, because it often comes back to bite you when you least expect it in the longer term scouting perspective …

Attention!

AAA, Midget and Junior team representatives set foot in the Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League quite often to take an early sampling of up and coming, promising talent of the future, and we are pretty sure Dawson Holt, Jonah Bumphrey, Xavier Labelle, Luke Penner, and Matthew Smith have turned quite a few heads with their conspicuously nice game this past season!

Wow, speak about a budding hockey talent powerhouse, the Soo Jr. Greyhounds of the Northern Ontario AAA Hockey League do have some amazing depth to their lineup this year! Kings!

The SBAAHL is becoming quite a hockey Mecca for coaches and scouts looking to add new depth to their AAA rosters for the upcoming season and we would, without hesitation, recommend West Central Wheat Kings' Kyle Bosch, Kenzie Arnold, Ben Cholin, Dallan Tuchscherer, and Andrew Hawes for springs-summer team try-out invite consideration!

We absolutely love prospects that can talk the talk and walk the walk through the regular season's tough going without flagging and losing momentum, and in this respect Jack Phibbs, Lucas Thorne, Tanner Brown and Curtis Egert from the Southern Tier Admirals of the South Central AAA Major Bantam league (OMHA) deserve all the props we can possibly give them!
